Fall Back / Change Smoke Alarm Battery

bg

It is that time of the year again when we switch our clocks back an hour on November 4th.  This is a great time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms also.

Be sure to check that your smoke alarms are working by testing them and ensuring they are free from dust and dirt. It is recommended that you test your smoke alarms every month.

Remember, the law requires you to have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside each sleeping area. The fine for not having an alarm where it is required, or for disabling a smoke alarm, is $235 per alarm.

Also, smoke alarms don’t last forever; it is recommended that you replace them every 10 years.

As many of you will be starting to use your fireplaces, wood stoves and furnaces in the very near future, it would be a good idea to have these appliances inspected and cleaned by a qualified professional before using them.
